Wang Chun-Mei is a multidisciplinary artist whose research-led practice explores social structures, cultural performance and the ways identity is shaped through history and place.

Through experimentation and material-based processes, Wang investigates the relationships between light, shadow, time and photographic histories. Working with analogue techniques and found objects, she examines how materials and memory interact, creating connections between past and present and reflecting on the cultural and historical forces that continue to shape personal and collective identities.

王淳眉,台北出生,台北長大,大學讀新聞,研究所讀社會與文化研究所。

喜歡採訪工作與事件現場。被社會學與文化研究(Cultural studies)啟發,而重新思考自己所處的環境的歷史發展跟結構,曾幫原住民導演輔選立委而真正開始在意現代國家的形成與暴力的表現形式,還有關係。攝影創作的動機來自「思考關係」,我跟社會的關係、我跟物品的關係、我跟時間的關係,嘗試用攝影影像的語言去表現,但又小心謹惕自己跟攝影的關係,覺得攝影是個曖昧的媒介,它有時基進,有時保守,有時私密,有時又像武器,一不小心就變成暴力。

王淳眉(Wang Chun-Mei, 왕순미), 타이베이에서 태어나고 자랐습니다. 대학에서 심문학을 정공하며 석사는 사회와 문화 연구를 공부하였습니다. 현제는 출판 일을 하고 있습니다.

취재와 현장을 좋아합니다. 사회학과 문화연구를 공부한 계기로 자신을 둘러싼 환경의 역사와 구조를 의식하여 생각하게 됩니다. 한 원주민 출신 감독님의 국회의원 선거 활동을 도와주면서 현대 국가의 형성과 폭력과의 관계나 표현방식을 진지하게 의식하게 됐습니다. 촬영 창작의 동기는 “관계에 대해 사고”이라고 말할 수 있습니다. 저과 사회의 관계, 저과 물품의 관계, 저과 시간의 관계 등등. 카메라, 영상이라는 언어로 표현할 시도를 해 본니다만, 동시에 자신과 촬영의 관계에 또한 주의 깊게 대하고 있습니다. 저는 촬영이란 애매한 매개이라고 생각합니다. 때로는 급진적이며 때로는 보수적입니다. 또한 어떤 때는 사적이면서도 어떤 때는 무기로 변신합니다. 잘 못하면 폭역으로 전락되기도 합니다.
